Food for Thought: Transforming the food culture of universities

October 29 - November 2, 2007

Universities can play a major role in changing our society’s relationship with food. Using working case studies and good practice examples, participants will explore how institutions can shift their purchasing policy towards organic and local food and they will discuss the many ways that universities can promote a more sustainable food culture.

This course is intended for: university staff (academic and administrative), but would also be relevant to local education authorities, school districts and others involved in larger scale catering.

At the 2006 Slow Food Terra Madre (the meeting of food communities from around the world) a network of universities was launched. Schumacher College was the first UK organisation to sign up to this network. This course is offered by the College in conjunction with the network to help universities begin the process of planning and creating a new food culture.
